Geraldine Kieran
Geraldine is a landscape painter. Having worked overseas for 4 years in a city of 5million people her work at present is a response to home, place and time. Of her work she says:
“Daily walks in West Cork where I live make me a viewer of vast atmospheric spaces which evoke the universal adage that its all much greater than me. The challenge to capture this mood always creates frustration and problem solving until I have put that emotional connection on canvas. I work from my studio in Kinsale, West Cork, am improving on being more disciplined in trying to get to studio work on a regular basis this I find helps to concentrate the mind on the creative process, this could sometimes be a day of drawing or combining the disciplines of drawing textiles and painting which I am exploring. Acrylic or oil are my main mediums, but I will use any medium intuitively when I feel the work demands it. I use an expressive style allowing the work to find its way, this could include brush work, pallet knife, rags, fingers, blending and layering. Quick sketches are made initially to find balance and shapes then I will go with memory and feelings to achieve the result I want to achieve. Painting is my language and I want my work to speak to people so they too can Feel an emotional connection to our landscape which evokes a strong feeling of identity”.
